Ruscus aculeatus ‘John Redmond’

Evergreen, shrub

Description

This evergreen, slow growing shrub will survive where not much else could in dry, dark shade. The leaves are really flattened stems and are so tough they were used historically to scrub butcher’s blocks, which is where its common name comes from. There are lovely, bright, red shiny berries over winter which stay on the plant for months. 60cm.
